The peninsula reflects an elegant old colonial style; Chitré is the capital. Enjoy the fairs full of tradition which enthral throughout the year and of course the carnival of Chitre, colloquially known as the Carnival Berraquera, or the parade of a thousand Polleras where some 10,000 native women dress in the striking Panamanian national dress. With its Spanish origins in evidence in the streets of Las Tablas with Spanish music together with foklore tamboritos are without equal.
Azuero also offers visitors the chance to experience diverse natural scenery and ecological tours between the Sarigua dessert trails belonging to a National Park where you will find the only Panamanian desert and mangrove forests with a variety of marine species. Azuero is Panamanian cuisine giving guest the chance to experience these typical Panamanian dishes; learn to distil rum at Hacienda San Isidro famous for its sugar cane crops.
